Video Transcript for CE Smith Boat Trailer Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts Review

Hi there boat trailer owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods. And this is what our replacement roller rod's going to look like. These are available in either two different diameters, whether it be five eighths, like we have here or half inch, you just want to match it up to your old one. And they're also available in varying lengths. So that way you can get the proper span for your particular trailer.

And all of them are zinc coated to protect them from rusting corrosion, which is very common on your boat trailers since you're pulling it in and out of the boat dock all the time, you're next to the Lake. They often get wet. So this way we can ensure that we're going to have long lasting operation of this rod, and it's not going to seize up inside of here due to rust and corrosion. Also included with it you'll receive cap nuts for each side of your rod. And these are nice because once you press them on there, they're pretty much a permanent fit, you have to really try to get them off of there. And since this is a roller, it doesn't ever really get forces side to side, but we don't want to use regular thread on nuts on something like this since it does roll.

That could potentially cause the nuts to back off. So this is an ideal solution. If your old keel roller or keel roller rod are worn out and need replacement, the replacement shaft here is going to be a great option for you because it's kind of a one use thing, unless you can get yourself some new cap nuts. And even if you do get new cabinets, if it's heavily corroded and worn down, those cap nuts may not fit as tight and as properly as they used to.So when replacing your keel roller, when it's wore out, I highly recommend also replacing the keel roller rod. The rod is going to be made of solid steel with a zinc coating.

So it's going to be extremely durable holding up the weight that is pressed down from the boat sitting on it there. And the zinc coat is going to protect it against rust and corrosion. If your keel roller is worn out. And that's why you're looking at getting replacements. We also carry the keel rollers here at etrailer.com.

So you can get a set up just like this. You can see how nice and smooth it is, and we've got a nice surface for our boat to rest on.Today we're going to be replacing the keel roller's shaft because our key roller's all damaged up and in order to get the roller off, we have to take the shaft out and the nuts typically get damaged and are not reusable. So we're just going to be replacing it all as an assembly. Start by removing our roller's nuts. We're just going to get behind it with a pair of pliers. We're just going to pop that cap off of there. inaudible 00:02:18. Our shaft will then slide out. We can remove our roller and then install our new components. We've got our shaft here and I find it easier to get one cap nut on first. So we're just going to set that on top and we're just going to hammer it into place. I'm going to use a rubber mallet just to help minimize how much dings I make on the little cap. And it's really that simple. And you can see here, there's no way I'm going to push this off. If I wanted to get this off of here, I would almost have to take another hammer and smash it off of there because you're just not going to be able to pull it off. Now we can just take our roller. We're going to set it into place. Slide our rod all the way through the roller, until it comes out on the other side. We'll then take our cap, we're going to set it into place. Now that we got it just barely started. We're going to finish tapping it on. I'm going to use a hammer on the other side, because it might hurt your hip or something else if you're holding it. And we can see our shaft spins, our roller spins and it's nice and solid, it's not going anywhere. Thought you need a hatchet. And that completes our look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods.

I needed to keep the stern of my pontoon boat from drifting off of the bunks when trailering and this unit had the same rollers as the Tracker factory rollers. The components are made of durable powder coated steel and are working perfectly after one year.

by:

Everything was perfect and fit just as needed.

by:

After searching other sites for boat trailer parts I decided to order from etrailer because of the wide selection and prices of their products. I quickly received the roller guides and shaft pins I ordered. The parts fit perfectly and were very easy to install. I will definitely use etrailer for all my trailer needs in the future.

I have a CE Smith trailer boat guide-on for about 15 years, and the top cap nut finally came off from road bouncing. The top roller guide was lost. These items allowed me to repair the guide. etrailer.com was quick to ship the parts with a fast carrier.

by:

All 3 items were delivered sooner than expected and seem to be quality items. The roller shaft is a little longer than I needed, but it's not an issue. All in all good service.

Snail delivered! Got the box today. Looked like they played soccer with it. My box being the ball. Box was all misshapen and beaten up. Delivery started with UPS then handed over to USPS.

Oh man, I hate to hear that. Please let us know if you have any damage to your items.

by:

The extra pal nuts I ordered were for 5/8 inch shaft. I needed 1/2 inch. I should have paid more attention to the size. The items I ordered worked well. I just wish I had ordered the 1/2 caps. It just isn't cost effective to send them back and just re-order the others.

by:

I ordered four rollers and a replacement shaft for my boat trailer and I am very pleased with all of it!!

by:

Product was exactly as described and worked perfectly for my repair project!! I would recommend this product.

by:

All items arrived on time. Exactly what I ordered. I will order follow on boat trailer parts later in the season.

by:

One of the few companies that treat you as a customer, not just a consumer. Great customer service, delivery time and fair prices. Have and will continue to order form etrailer. Thanks again.

by:

Received our purchase within 4 days. Excellent prices and reasonable shipping charges. This was the 2nd time we ordered from etrailer, but will not be our last. We will recommend to all our boating friends.

A better option is to use the Yates Side Guide Roller 12" Long # YR12243-5 instead, which uses a 5/8" shaft, along with bracket # 408300, shaft and pal nuts # CE10727A. We don't carry a 1/2" shaft kit that is longer than 12-3/4". The CE Smith U-Bolt Kit # CE15283GA-4, that you were looking at,...

Yes, the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts for Boat Trailer Rollers # CE10705A (12-3/4" x 1/2") can be cut down to the size that you are needing. You just want to be cautious that you make clean straight cuts, so the pal nuts will still attach to the roller shaft.

  • Replacement Side Guide Rollers and Endcaps For a Boat Trailer
It appears you have the Yates Side Guide Roller # YR9202-4 with the Yates Endcap # YR220-4. The endcap is held in place on the 1/2" Shaft # CE10705A by a Cap Nut # CE10800. These are a press fit on the shaft and can take a bit to get the cap nut off. As you mentioned the top portion is just falling apart as you touch it it would be easiest to just cut it off to gain access to the cap nut which you can then use a 1/2 open end wrench to get under the cap nut and pry/hammer off the nut.
